Love Cliches and a Fiery Blaze

Last night I was sitting at my computer, listening to some music. My playlist was on random through all of my music (a playlist I rarely use). One of my favourite songs of all time comes up. Norwegian Wood by the Beatles. This is easily my favourite Beatles song, tied with Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd as my favourite song pre-90s. It does hold the number one position for me regarding lyrics. I shall post them here.

I once had a girl, or should i say, she once had me.
She showed me her room, isn't it good, norwegian wood?
She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So i looked around and i noticed there wasn't a chair.
I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine.
We talked until two and then she said, "it's time for bed".
She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her i didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath.
And when i awoke i was alone, this bird had flown.
So i lit a fire, isn't it good, norwegian wood.

It's a nice, short bit of lyrical genius that tells a wonderful and crazy story.
So, now, you are probably wondering what I am on about. Well when I saw that song pop up in my media player, I noticed it was being attributed to an album called "Beatles Love Songs." It was originally on Rubber Soul, but I found out that there was a compilation of Beatles songs thrown together on an album of Beatles Love Songs.

This could be some sort of existential, post-modern, the-song-has-whatever-meaning nonsense, where other people are getting something else out of that song/story, different than mine. But I think it is pretty clear that he BURNED DOWN HER HOUSE! Now, thats love. Now I can understand that the reasons for burning her house down could be varied. I tend to have two theories. One is that he wasted his time and didn't end up bedding the girl. I prefer the thought that it was to free her from her consumerism, bragging about her Norwegian wood and whatnot. Either way, I wouldn't call a song which talks of the burning down of a girl's house a love song. I don't know, maybe that's just me.

On the topic, I'm off to profess my undying love for zombies.

Oh postmodern... how I detested that term because there is no straight definition, but you know that. However as time goes on, I am starting to appreciate the fact that this means there is no wrong answer, and I do like being right.

That being said, burning down a house is quite the crazy proclamation of love. Didn't she say she was working in the morning? That tells me he didn't really listen to her. Boy would I be embarrassed if I burned down somebody's house because of love and it turns out they were just at work. Ooops. I guess love truly is blind.

Have you heard the song "I'm so postmodern" by The bedroom philosphers? I recommend it. Good times.

I will certainly check that out.

I'm a huge fan of that song. Actually, I'm a fan of that whole album.

In a world without consequences, I probably would have burned a few houses down myself.
